Leadership and Teambuilding

Successful sports teams are not simply made up of talented individuals. Unity, respect, honesty, clear communication, comradery, and trust are just a few traits that typically drive collective high performance in teams. However, building an environment that fosters these traits is easier said than done. Cohesion doesn’t just happen. It is a process that takes time, effort, skill, and guidance.

If you’re a coach of any kind of sporting team who wants help creating the optimal environment for your players where individuals can flourish while putting the needs of the group above their own, then Zac is the person you want to bring in. He is comfortable working with teams made up of any gender.

Before each engagement Zac does a thorough needs assessment to ensure that he understands the purpose of his involvement. Thereafter, he works with coaches and players to create a culture that will help the whole be greater than the sum of its parts. And come the final whistle, that’s often the difference between winning and losing.

Zac’s teambuilding and leadership expertise can be used in a one-off session, for a bundle of sessions, or throughout an entire season. If you are interested in using him to assist in transforming your group of players into a champion team, please see the CONTACT page to set-up a meeting to discuss further.

Success Stories

“Zac worked as an assistant coach for the Bishops U15A rugby side. He oversaw the attack skills, backline set-piece, and position-specific skills for scrum-halves and fly-halves. From my extensive time working with Zac when he was both the Bishops 1st XI cricket captain and the Western Province U19A Coke Week cricket captain, his greatest strength was his very innate ability to lead by being an example while managing his leadership groups effectively to all pull collectively to team goals. I therefore put him in charge of team culture, and he worked closely with the leadership group of the U15A team. He guided them well and created a collective responsibility to play and work for each other, and therefore, put the team first. Through this, he motivated the players to maximize their potential, and they ultimately achieved results that were above the expectations of parents and the heads of rugby in the school as they were seen as a weaker age-group in terms of talent and depth. He was always punctual in his manner and set a good example to his fellow coaches and the boys he coached. He was always well-prepared and was an excellent technical coach in his areas of expertise. He had an outstanding reputation among the players who believed in him. He will add tremendous value to any organization, company, team, or program he becomes a part of.”

Richard Smith (Rugby and Cricket Coach at Diocesan College and Head of Life Orientation)

“I appointed Zac the captain of Western Province for the 2020/2021 domestic cricket season in South Africa. He did a great job leading the team throughout the year. During a tough campaign that was made especially challenging because of complications around the Covid 19 pandemic, Zac brought a diverse team together and ensured that everyone was always pulling in the same direction. One of Zac's standout attributes as a leader is his ability to create cohesion. Under Zac’s captaincy, everyone knew what was expected of them and how best they could contribute to the group. As the coach of the team, I enjoyed working with Zac. I highly recommend Zac’s services to any group or team that is looking to become a better connected and more together unit.”

Paul Adams (Former South Africa spin bowler, Western Province coach, and current South Africa U19 spin bowling coach)

“Zac played, captained, and coached at Green Point Cricket Club for nine seasons. During his tenure, the club climbed from Division Two of the Western Province Cricket Competition to the Premier League. Zac’s performances as a player during this time were outstanding – he was the club’s leading run-scorer in every season. However, he added enormous value from a leadership perspective too. Zac worked with others to modify the identity of the club, give the club direction and purpose, bring the club together, and helped create a positive environment for everyone to flourish in. Zac’s leadership, creativity, intelligence, and curiosity will make him an asset to any team or organisation that he works for. He has so much to offer in a consulting capacity.”
